PCB was engaged by Defence Maintenance Management (DMM) to complete the ‘Aquatic Centre Energy Saving Works’ at Randwick Barracks.
The Aquatic Centre at Randwick Barracks has amongst its facilities, an outdoor Olympic size Swimming Pool that obviously requires heating as per guidelines for such a facility.
PCB set about researching the options available with a view to providing an ‘Environmentally Conscientious’ solution to the requirements exploring avenues such as Solar, Gas, and Geothermal.
Given the location of the site (immediately above the ‘Botany Aquifer’) it was decided to exploit a Ground Source Geothermal Installation.
The system operates at a fraction of the energy consumption of the previous heaters and is projected to provide for the return of the systems installation costs well within the nominated four (4) year period.
The project has since won an Environmentally Sustainable Development Award from Brookfield.
